Fortnite Creators Can Now Monetize In-Game Items and Boost Visibility
Epic Games has just announced a game-changing update for Fortnite creators: starting this December, they will be able to sell in-game items directly from their custom islands. This new feature opens up exciting monetization opportunities for creators, allowing them to earn revenue from consumable items like power-ups and durable items such as weapons and cosmetics. Until the end of 2026, creators will retain 100% of the V-Bucks value from these sales, which translates to approximately 74% of the actual money spent on V-Bucks after fees.
In addition to selling items, creators can also pay to have their islands featured in a new Sponsored Row, enhancing their visibility in the Discover menu. This initiative aims to boost engagement and revenue for creators, with 100% of the revenue from the Sponsored Row going into the engagement pool until 2026. However, it’s important to note that this percentage will drop to 50% in 2027 to help cover the costs of maintaining the Fortnite ecosystem.
This update marks a significant shift in how creators can monetize their work within Fortnite, reflecting the growing trend of user-generated content in gaming. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, how will creators adapt to these new opportunities?
